Adoption Prescreening
At Walnut Valley Puppies we have sold puppies to many wonderful people across the country and have the assurance they went to good homes. We want to know about you and ask that you tell us about yourselves in the application form.
You need to be aware of the costs associated with a new dog, the care and attention required to develop them into adulthood and beyond, and have adequate living space. If you feel you are ready, we welcome you to reserve one of our puppies. While it is highly unlikely to happen, we do reserve the right to decline an adoption if we believe it may not be in the best interest of the puppy.
Post-Adoption Owner Responsibilities & Vet Reimbursements
To ensure your puppy is healthy and adapting well to their new home, we ask that you get your puppy checked by a vet within 72 hours of adoption.
Any normal vet costs incurred are the responsibility of the owner. If your vet finds pre existing conditions (see below), you may provide a copy of the veterinarian’s invoice to have treatment costs reimbursed for amounts not exceeding the total cost of the puppy.
While we do follow a strict deworming protocol, it is common for puppies to pick up parasites such as giardia, coccidia, roundworm, etc. Mother dogs are more vulnerable to parasites after having puppies and may pass those along to some of their litter. If your puppy is found to have parasites within 72 hours of adoption, we will reimburse you 100% of the cost of needed medications.
Our Genetic Health Guarantee
At Walnut Valley Puppies we follow uncompromising breeding practices and health test all of our parent dogs. Because of this, we offer a 3 year genetic heath guarantee that can be extended to 5 Years with the right nutrition. See our Health Guarantee page for more details. If genetic health issues arise within these first years of owning your dog (hip and elbow dysplasia, luxating patella, etc.) we will reimburse expenses incurred up to the amount paid for the dog, or replace the puppy with one of equal value if preferred.
Diet and exercise play a significant role in your pet’s overall health. If you want your puppy to live a long and happy life into adulthood, daily healthy habits are a must.

Sales Tax and Processing Fees
We are required to charge a 6.25% sales tax on all puppies picked up or delivered to homes in Illinois. Puppies flown, delivered, or picked up outside of Illinois are not taxed.
Payments can be made with Bank Transfer, Cash, Check, or PayPal/Credit Card. PayPal and Credit Card payments are subject to a 3% processing fee. (We personally pay this fee on all initial deposits made by Credit card or PayPal.)
Refunds
In the rare event something may happen to your puppy while you have a deposit on it, you have two options:
- Use that deposit on another puppy from current or future litters
- Receive a 100% refund of your deposit
However, if you choose not to take the puppy after reserving them, your deposit becomes non-refundable. We use deposits to help relocate non-claimed puppies to other homes. That said, we aim to be reasonable and make allowances for circumstances outside your control.
Advance Deposits
If you would like to be placed on the reservation waitlist, please read our reservation page information and place your deposit from there.
Being on the waitlist gives you picking rights from available and future litters. You can skip your turn at any time, as many times as you like, and still be notified of subsequent litters—with a higher pick the next time around.
For more information, read the reservation page.
Deposit and Refund Guidelines
Reservation list deposits are 50% refundable at any time and for any reason ($250 of your initial $500 deposit). Once you pick a puppy, deposits become non-refundable. Reservations are honored in order of deposits placed. If you would like to be on more than one list, separate deposits are required for each list.
Personal Delivery Options
Our job isn’t done until your puppy is safely with you—whether you’re on the other side of the country or the other side of town!
We offer both ground and air transit options. In either case, your puppy will always be accompanied by a staff member, and never shipped.
Pickup and Delivery
While local pickup is preferred, we do have several ground shipping options available. In many cases, we can deliver directly to your home for $1.50 per mile. If we have multiple puppies going to the same area, we can often split the cost and get better rates.
Additionally, note that puppies picked up or delivered in Illinois are subject to a 6.25% state sales tax.
Air Transit
To have your puppy flown directly to you, we fly with your puppy from the Indianapolis, IN airport to the closest major airport near you. Your puppy is carried in a breathable, soft travel carrier in the cabin for the duration of the flight and is given treats, a chance to use the bathroom along the way, and lots of love and snuggles during travel.
The price for our flight nanny service is $475 (which includes the $125- $150 pet fee) plus the cost of airfare.
Airport Pickup
If you would like to fly your puppy yourself, we can meet you at the Indianapolis Airport for $175 within normal business hours. In this case, the buyer is responsible for the full cost of airline travel.
